Your willpower to avoid cookies may waver, but we guarantee that your eyeliner won’t budge. We’re ready to indulge you in 5 beauty & wellness tricks we swear by during the holiday season!
1. Hydrate & Glow
Fact: the colder the weather – the more dry and dull our skin becomes. With skincare trending, we have tons of options for hydration. You can use a serum, oil, moisturizing cleanser, moisturizing mask, balm or a classic moisturizing cream. But what about the lifeless winter look that appears when our summer color has left our faces? We have a solution! Before applying makeup, mix a concoction of your favorite moisturizing cream with a liquid bronzer and/or illuminator. Our favorites winter skin pick-me-up combos are as followed: For a dewy glow use First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration + Sephora Collection Radiant Luminizing Drops. For a more bronzed look try mixing Malin+Goetz Advanced Renewal Cream + Chantecaille Radiance Gel Bronzer.
Rub into face and neck, let set and continue with your makeup routine!
Time is something we all wish that we had more of, which is why millennials have become professional multitaskers! We eat lunch while we ride the subway, we scroll through our Instagram feed while listening to music and catching up with friends AND we multi-mask. Multi-Masking is the art of using multiple different faces masks at the same time is target specific areas and needs. This covers more ground and shortens getting ready time. Here is how we map out our multi-masking:
Origins Clear Improvements Active Charcoal Mask on chin & jawline for hormonal breakouts.
Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Nose Strip across the nose to remove blackheads.
Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Pure Retinol Express Smoothing Eye Mask to hydrate and smooth under eyes.
Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask to resurface your forehead.
Kiehl’s Radiance Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Radiance Mask to make your cheeks glow.
3. Consider the Classics
Friendsgiving, Thanksgiving, and Holiday Office Parties will be here before you know it and we want you to consider the classics when planning what face will go with your festive outfits. Nothing is as clean and sophisticated (especially around the holidays) than a perfectly painted red pout and a timeless, crisp cat eye. The red lip and cat eye duo have gone hand-in-hand for ages, and for good reason! You can dress it up or dress it down. Pair it with your favorite jeans, sweater, and heels or that new dress, stockings and over-the-knee boots you decided to splurge on! Our favorite red lip for all year round is NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella. Match this shade with our always dependable ABLE Cosmetics Cat Eye 101 to keep your wings on point this holiday season.
4. Scrub & Shine
Freezing winds will surely take a toll on our lips this winter, which is why are going to scrub & shine our way to spring. A makeup artist’s trick is to use Vaseline and a clean mascara spoolie to scrub off any dry skin on the lips. After you are finished scrubbing, wipe away excess skin and product with a warm cloth and follow up with a generous amount of lip moisturizer. This process will help prevent and banish cracked and chapped cold-weather lips! This is also great to do before applying lip color any time of year to start with a prepped and clean slate.
5. Holistic Healing
If you are like us, you think of the holidays and feel excited … but also a little more stressed than usual, which is why we suggest some Holistic Healing. You can download the app HeadSpace, pour yourself a generous glass of wine OR plug in a Vitruvi Diffuser with your favorite scent. This will help calm your mind, your senses and hopefully help you forget that embarrassing comment your mom just made at the dinner table. You can also burn candles to set a relaxing mood – we love Maison Louis Marie Antidris in Cassis.
